Colour

Colour can be used to group content, help users navigate and elicit strong emotion. We achieve this through use of our primary and secondary colour palettes.

Primary colour palette

We use 4 primary colours consistently to build brand recognition: blue, red, white and grey.

Blue is often associated with trust, honesty and professionalism. Red invokes warmth, energy, and excitement. White is a symbol of simplicity, whereas grey creates a neutral, more formal look that complements other colours.

These colours should be featured prominently throughout all digital communications.

Please maintain the following ratios in all digital applications:

  • Blue - 20%
  • Red - 10%
  • White - 60%
  • Greys - 10%

Secondary colour palette

We use our secondary colours to enhance the primary ones. The secondary palette should always complement our core brand colours. It should never dominate or overwhelm the presence of the primary colours. Use secondary colours for special cases such as error messages, notifications and alerts.

Digital illustration

Our digital iconography and illustration palette derives from our primary and secondary palettes. Additional shades are used in digital illustration to help enhance the foreground and background. The hues complement the core colours and should never dominate or overwhelm the primary and secondary palette.

Accessibility

Content on our website must be available to all Canadians. Colour plays a vital role in making our content accessible.

At Canada Post, we aim to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA standard. Some users can’t see colour very well or at all. If you plan on using colour to convey important information, please make sure you’re following WCAG’s use of colour.

For users who have low vision and need contrast-enhancing assistive technology, determine if text is readable on backgrounds of different colours by following the contrast minimums outlined by WCAG.
